Car Insurance MINI (Car Insurance). There is a weird sound comming from my car's engine? (VIDEO INCLUDED)?There is a weird sound comming from my car's engine? (VIDEO INCLUDED)? Ok, so yet another problem with my new car. My car's battery died a few days ago, today I jump started it, and I noticed a weird sound comming from the engine. This sound did not happen before the car's battery died. I have no idea what is wrong with the car or what could be causing it. I am tired of so many problems with this car and I keep spending more and more money on fixes I just need some help. Here's a video of the car and the sound: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGO6TUB_EyQ That is a worrisome sound, all right, even though it is not very distinct in the video. It's hard to tell where a lot of engine sounds come from by listening to the outside, so I recommend you get a mechanic's stethoscope (about $10 at auto parts stores). With that you can selectively listen to the bottom end by placing the probe on the block near the crank pulley, and to the top end by placing the probe on the valve cover or on the edge of the valve cover near the belts. Noise from the bottom end is generally more trouble than noise from the top end but both can be repaired at reasonable cost in most cases if the engine is not driven with lubrication problems. . ....................................................oh geez not to burst ur bubble but u might be needing another engine... that gas engine sounds like a diesel knocking and noises.... when is the last time uve checked the oil? sounds like its gonna go any time now.... i hope its just the way the vid makes it sound cause thats not good. i dont like vids cause they never are the same as in person so i suppose disreguard what i sent cause i dont wannna tell u the wrong thing... just to me i hear it and all i hear is knocking sounds like a diesel and an annoying slight small exhaust leak.. but every time i listen to this i hear engine knocking and tapping sounds like its ready to go but vids might make it sound diferent than in person im not familiar with vids yet but in person i could tell u. but just sounds bad if its not just the vid.... ive listened to it many times and some others to see if there alike. i gave opinion... internal engine parts... check oil.... I didnt know Mitsubishi was putting Deisels in the eclipse. JK. its fried. Typical mitsubishi lack of lubrication issued fired your motor. the valve train is not being lubed and /or is fried. in short. its done. they have serious valve train /lifter problems in the 1.8 and 2.0 motors. MINI . How to Clean Dirt Smudges on Door Panels in VehiclesIn most vehicles the door panels become dirty very quickly, and these stains can be difficult to remove. Different kinds of interior door panels require different methods of cleaning. Knowing the right methods to use when cleaning your door panels will help you eliminate stains and keep your interior clean. Difficulty:Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Towel Paper towels Toothbrush Upholstery cleaner Towels Warm water Leather or vinyl protectant sprayCarpet, Fabric or Plastic Door Panels Step by Step : 1 To clean carpet or fabric door panels you will need an upholstery cleaner, warm water and a toothbrush. Take the upholstery cleaner spray and spritz the stained area. Let the stain soak up the cleaner for about five minutes. Then take your toothbrush and dip it into the warm water and start scrubbing the stained area. Scrub the area in a circular motion to work the cleaner into the stain. Go over the whole area with the toothbrush and water. 2 After you have scrubbed the whole area, it is ready for rinsing. Take a clean white towel that has been soaked in warm water, and squeeze out excess water until the towel is only damp. Use a pressing motion and press the towel against the stained area, lifting the cleaner and stains from the affected area. Go over the whole area once, then rinse out the towel. Repeat the process until the towel no longer brings up any stains. 3 For plastic door panels you will need a damp cloth and dishwashing liquid. Pour a small amount of liquid onto the damp cloth and wipe the stained area. The stains should come off right away. Keep a bucket of clean water nearby to rinse off your cloth and to rewet the cloth for futher cleaning. 4 Allow the area to air dry if possible by leaving your doors open for air circulation. Leather or Vinyl Door Panels Step by Step : 1 Leather or vinyl door panels must be cleaned with special cleaners. You can go to any automotive store and purchase a protectant for either leather or vinyl. Wipe the stained area with a clean towel to remove as much of the stain as you can before cleaning. 2 Take the protectant cleaner and spray it onto the stained area. Use a washcloth to work the cleaner into the stain. The stain should rub right off of the door panel. If not, you may need to use more cleaner. Repeat this process until the stains are no longer visible. 3 After removing the stain, take paper towels and remove any cleaning fluid left on the area. This should also dry the area.
MINI . How to Construct a Speaker Enclosure for a Door PanelAre your new speakers too large to fit in the factory cavity? Construct a door speaker panel or pod. Difficulty:Moderately challenging Instructions Things You'll Need Spray Glues Vinyl Measuring Tapes Scalpels Magic Marker Pencils Adhesive Tape Poster Boards Belt Sanders Flat Files Hardware Staple Guns Variable-speed DrillsPreliminaries Step by Step : 1 Gather the following tools and materials: poster board, medium-density fiberboard, masonite, grille cloth, 1/4-inch foam rubber padding, vinyl, velcro, cordless drill, window-crank pin-removal tool, hook tool, pick tool, panel-popping tool, air or belt sander, metal-cutting tool, jigsaw, scalpel, magic marker, pencil, tape measure, adhesive tape, spray glue, file and staple gun. 2 Measure the depth of the speaker, the depth of the factory opening in the door and calculate the additional depth needed to accommodate the new speaker. 3 Inspect the driver's door panel and determine where you want the speaker pod or panel to go. Usually it's put on the bottom quarter of the door. 4 Measure the door and the speaker to make certain that the location you've chosen will work, and then construct two templates for the pod out of the poster board. The first template is the first level of the pod and covers the entire length of the bottom quarter of the door. The second template is the second level of the pod and covers the area where the speaker will be located. 5 Use the speaker and pencil to trace a circle on to the first template in the area where the speaker will be located in the pod, and cut out the hole. 6 Tape template No. 2 over template No. 1 and tape both templates on to the door panel. 7 Inspect all around the templates to make certain that there are no obstructions such as the molding on the doorsill or the dashboard, the window crank, or any factory mechanisms inside the door such as the locking mechanism. If any obstructions are found, adjust the templates' location to accommodate. 8 Remove the templates, the hardware from the door panel and then the panel itself. 9 Cut out the plastic liner covering the interior of the door with a scalpel. Constructing the Pod Step by Step : 1 Trace the outlines of the templates on to the medium-density fiberboard. 2 Use the jigsaw to cut out the patterns, and then use the speaker to trace a circle on to the smaller board where the speaker will be located. Cut out that circle as well. 3 Assemble the two boards together, making certain that everything aligns properly. Use screws to fasten the boards together but don't sink the screws all the way into the assembly. 4 Place the pod assembly on the door panel and sink the screws into the assembly and door panel. 5 Flip the door panel over and mark the location of the screws. This will serve as a guide when you are ready to mount the pod to the door panel permanently. 6 Mount the door panel back on the door with the pod in place. Close the door and inspect to make certain that the pod fits properly. You may have to shorten it a fraction of an inch in the front (if so, sand it down until it fits). 7 Remove the door panel and take the pod off the panel. 8 Cut out the portion of the door panel where the speaker will be located, using the pod as a guide. 9 Use a marker to note pieces of metal in the door that appear to obstruct the opening for the speaker, remove the door panel and cut out the marked metal. Step by Step : 10 Take the pod off the door panel and sand it to round off its corners and to give it a rounding slope to the section that will hold the speaker. By the time you finish the sanding, the assembly will look like one piece rather than two. Step by Step : 11 Push the speaker into the hole from the front of the pod to see whether it fits. Use a file to trim the edges of the hole and sand a little bit on the top of the pod near the hole until the speaker fits properly. Step by Step : 12 Trace an outline of the second template to the back of a sheet of masonite and cut out the pattern. This will serve as the speaker grille. Step by Step : 13 Draw a circle on to the back of the masonite representing the location of the speaker and use a unibit drill to cut 10 or 20 holes in the masonite within the circle. The holes serve as perforation so that the sound made by the speaker can escape through the cover. Step by Step : 14 Use the sander to buff away excess masonite, which may have built up from the drill piercing through the board, until the surface is flat. Step by Step : 15 Place the grille over the speaker housing of the pod to check the fit. Sand around the housing to create a good, rounded edge. Step by Step : 16 Remove the grille, spray glue on it and wrap black grille cloth around it. Step by Step : 17 Cut out a piece of 1/4-inch foam rubber padding, spray glue on the pod and wrap the padding loosely around the front section of the pod with some excess trim going around the edges to about 1 inch or so of the back. Step by Step : 18 Cut some vinyl. Spray glue on to the foam on the pod and wrap the vinyl tightly around the pod with about an inch or so of trim wrapping around the edges to the back of the pod. Heat the vinyl with a hot gun while you are applying it so that it will be soft and pliable and capable of being stretched. Step by Step : 19 Staple the vinyl to the back end of the pod with an air staple gun and trim off excess material with scissors. 20 Take the scalpel and cut several straight cuts radiating from a center point into the vinyl and foam that cover the hole for the speaker. 21 Push the speaker into the cuts. Secure the speaker to the pod with screws. 22 Mount the pod to the door panel. Sink the screws into the back end of the door panel through the same holes that were made when the unfinished pod was mounted to the door panel earlier on in the construction process. Add more screws to assure that the pod is secure. 23 Place some strips of Velcro along the back edges of the masonite grille cover and along the edges of the pod that houses the speaker. Make sure that the Velcro strips are aligned. 24 Mount the masonite to the pod over the speaker. 25 Take the door panel and the pod to the car, attach the speaker wires to the speaker terminals and re-place the door panel to the door. 26 Take the templates used to make the pod for the driver's door and flip them over and trace the patterns on to the fiberboard and make the pod for the passenger door as described. Tips & Warnings Wash your hands prior to applying the vinyl to the pod. If glue should get on your hands during the process, stop immediately and wash them. You can't properly lay down vinyl with glue on your hands. *e" If you hear a whining or humming sounds on curves, your wheel bearings may be wearing. Chapter 18 turns you on to the sensual thrill of repacking them with your bare hands. *> If your tires "tramp" (make a weird, rhythmic sound as you drive), check inflation, tire wear, and wheel balancing (see Chapter 18). v0 If you hear squealing when you step on the brake, you've probably worn the brake pads down too far. Get them replaced immediately. Some disc brakes are naturally noisy, but if the sound gets louder, take heed. j> If something ticks rhythmically while your engine idles, shut off the engine, wait ten minutes, and then check the oil level. The hydraulic lifters that operate the valves in your engine can make these noises if you're down as little as a quart of oil. If the level is low, add oil up to the "Full" line on the dipstick and check again in a couple of days. If you have enough oil, have a mechanic check the valve adjustment if your car has adjustable valves (some don't). Faulty valves can seriously affect your car's performance and fuel consumption. e* If you hear a loud knocking sound in your engine, pull to the side of the road immediately and call for road service. It may be just a loose rocker arm or carbon buildup inside the engine, but if it's a loose bearing or a faulty piston, letting it go unheeded can destroy the whole engine. Mild knocking or "pinging" may be the result of using fuel with the wrong octane rating. Check your owner's manual to see whether your vehicle needs low-octane or premium gas. . Try the following: • With the engine off, check the spark plug cables for breaks or shorts in the wiring. • With the engine off, remove the spark plugs one at a time and check whether they're clean and properly gapped. Replace any that are fouled or burned. If that doesn't help, have a technician check the ignition system with an electronic engine analyzer. People used to check spark plugs by holding the end of the spark plug cable close to a metal surface to see whether a spark jumped across when the engine was cranked, but the high voltage in most ignition systems now makes that procedure extremely dangerous.
